Bucs sign second-round pick Carlton Davis
The Bucs announced the signing of second-round pick Carlton Davis on Thursday. The team got first-round pick Vita Vea under contract earlier in the day.
Tampa Bay coach Dirk Koetter praised Davis after Thursday’s OTA.
The NFL decided last week that players must stand on the field during the national anthem — but gave them the option to remain in the locker room during the ceremony.
Earlier on Monday night, The White House said they will be holding a Celebration of America instead of hosting the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
It was not clear if the cancellation of the Super Bowl event had anything to do with the new NFL anthem policy — or if that was a separate issue that Trump included in his tweet.
The Giants on Thursday sat down for what head coach Pat Shurmur described as a real big personnel meeting to assess the roster. It was determined the smartest course of action moving into the final week of OTAs was to shift the focus a bit, away from the established starters in order to get a better look at the youngsters vying for slots on the depth chart.
Via Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com, Tennessee Congresswoman Diane Black made it clear she didn’t think the league went far enough.
Black, who is running for governor, previously gave up her Titans season tickets and vowed to boycott the NFL over the anthem protests (even though no Titans took a knee during the anthem last year).
I don’t know that that totally makes me feel better, Black told the Portland Leader. That tells me that there are still a number of players that don’t respect our country.
If you stay in the locker room, what does that say? That says that says I don’t respect that flag and I don’t respect that anthem. And I’m not sure I want to give my money to players who are making millions and sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars who don’t respect our country.
If that feels like political pandering, it probably should. But it also represents the reality the NFL created for itself.
